​​​​When using fireworks, make sure you protect yourself and others with these fireworks safety tips:

  • Purchase your fireworks from a reliable source
  • Always read and follow labelled directions.​
  • Only use fireworks outdoors
  • Always have a water source such as a garden hose or bucket handy
  • Never experiment with or make your own fireworks
  • Light only one firework at a time
  • Never re-light a dud firework. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, then soak the dud in a bucket of water.
  • Never let children handle, play with or set off fireworks under any circumstances. This includes sparklers which can burn at a very high temperature and can easily cause burns and ignite clothing. 
  • Dispose of fireworks properly by following the manufacturer's instruction for safe disposal.
  • Don't set off fireworks in a strong wind
  • Never throw or point fireworks at other people
  • Never carry fireworks in your pocket
  • Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers
  • The shooter should always wear eye protection and never have any part of their body over the firework.
  • Stay away from illegal explosives
