Project Zero / "Stay Fire Smart Campaign"

For the past several years, Central York Fire Services has been conducting an annual Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide and Fire Safety Campaign during the months of July and August.
During these summer months, students specializing in fire protection, visit homes in the Newmarket and Aurora area in order to provide public education and assistance with home smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
This is a valuable public service for all but especially important to residents requiring assistance with the maintenance of these critical life saving devices.
We have been operating this service since 1995 and our ultimate goal is to ensure there are working smoke alarms on every level of each dwelling in Newmarket and Aurora.
New this year is "Project Zero", a colaboration between Enbridge Gas, the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and Central York Fire Services to ensure every home has a working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector.
Our Smoke Alarm Campaign Officers will inspect any currently installed alarms / detectors, make recommendations regarding placement of these units, replace batteries if necessary and provide general public education regarding both Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.
This service is provide free of charge to residents of Aurora and Newmarket.
This year the program runs from June 21, 2011 to August 26, 2011.
